Washington welcomes the newest member of the family, Jayden Daniels, after making him the 2nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Draft day is finally here and Washington has made their pick! The Commanders selected LSU QB Jayden Daniels with the second-overall pick in the draft. USC’s Caleb Williams went to the Chicago Bears with the first pick as expected. New GM Adam Peters had his pick from the remaining top QBs which also included North Carolina’s Drake Maye, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. Washington went with the current Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, an exciting prospect who had the best season of his 5 year career in college last year. He will have a 4-year, $37,746,650 which includes a $24,272,108 signing bonus. He will have a $6,863, 027 cap hit for 2024.

Daniels joins a Washington Commanders team that has signed 22 players in free agency, and is looking to turn over the roster left behind by former head coach/head of football operations Ron Rivera. Sam Howell was last season’s starter, but he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks. Jacoby Brissett was the backup, but he’s now with the New England Patriots. Washington signed Marcus Mariota shortly before trading Howell, and he is expected to be Daniels’ backup unless the rookie struggles to adjust to the NFL game in his first season. Daniels was considered a prospect who was ready to play now, as opposed to someone like Drake Maye who might need more time to refine his throwing motion and footwork.
