Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

‘Voted off the island’: Inside Bill Belichick’s failed job hunt – ESPN
Not since Paul Brown in the 1960s had such a revolutionary head coach been available. Owners and executives, even on teams that didn’t have openings, discussed hiring Belichick. Among them were the Eagles, who were coming off a disappointing finish one year after a narrow Super Bowl loss. Owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manger Howie Roseman, both Belichick fans, still strongly believed in their current head coach, Nick Sirianni, who over a stretch went 26-5. But Lurie thought it was worth asking a confidant of his about Belichick. A source close to Belichick said the coach would have been interested. Roseman told ESPN he had a conversation with Belichick, a check-in to see how the coach was doing after he was out in New England. A source close to Belichick confirmed there was no talk during the call about working for the Eagles. Still, there was chatter in league circles that Philadelphia and Belichick could be a match. Despite some owners and executives believing the game had passed Belichick by, the Eagles felt he still had his fastball; he had nearly beaten them in the 2023 season opener with an inferior team. There’s also a belief that Belichick will coach only until he gets 15 more wins, enough to pass Don Shula as the winningest coach in NFL history. Though not seriously considering a move, Lurie wondered to a confidant: Was it worth overhauling the building, changing personnel and philosophies on everything from training staff to salary cap structure, for someone who might coach only two years? “You’ll have to start over again,” said a source with firsthand knowledge of the Eagles’ thinking. “Who would replace him? He hasn’t had a good record of developing coaches. They were afraid that he’ll have changed everything and every person, and [then] you’ll be starting from scratch again. He didn’t demand those changes, but they felt like, if we hire him, we have to give everything to him and trust how he does it.”

Howie Roseman calls re-signing Eagles’ draft picks a “success story” – BGN
The Eagles’ GM and head coach sat down for their pre-draft press conference and talked about the importance of retaining top players, their approach to player development, and more.

Did the Eagles drop a hint about their plan for next week’s draft? – NBCSP
“When you look at Lane Johnson, you’re talking about still one of the best players in the league,” Roseman said. “One of the best people, one of the best players in the league. Incredibly fortunate to have him and the level that he plays at. And, really, I can’t speak for Coach, but I know just from speaking to him enough, the confidence going into a game with him being able to be our right tackle and one of the captains on this team. And so you don’t ever replace that, you don’t replace that in three years, you don’t replace that in five years. He’s a generational player and so just like we talked about with (Jason) Kelce, with [Fletcher Cox], you don’t ever replace those guys. Those guys are irreplaceable. “But when you talk about position importance, the O-line across the board has always been a huge importance to us. And it hasn’t only been about the five guys. It’s been about having depth up front. … it’s an important position to us and so we’re looking at it just in terms of numbers about not only where we are now, but also going forward.” Maybe you don’t believe what Roseman says, especially a week before the draft. Can’t blame you there. But it’s not just what Roseman said on Tuesday that makes you think the Eagles will select an offensive tackle early in this draft. It’s his history too.

#JimmySays: With the exception of the disastrous 2014 draft when the worst case scenario (Marcus Smith) became the reality, Roseman has proven to be very good at reading what is likely to happen before the Eagles’ pick. I also thought it was noteworthy that Roseman felt that the unpredictability of the first round will begin after the first 25 or so picks, which in my mind means that he believes that there is a dropoff in talent after roughly 25 players. If that read is right (and if Roseman is being honest about where the unpredictability begins), a trade back feels unlikely to me.

2024 NFL Draft: Notable first-round trades Eagles could make, including blockbuster move into top 10 – CBS Sports
Trade up to No. 19. This is a much smaller leap, but if the Eagles have their heart set on adding a tackle of the future — they’ve proven time and time again they value the trenches above all else — then this would enable a jump of the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers, both of whom could use help at bookend, if not cornerback. The Rams, meanwhile, would probably welcome additional ammo for the post-Matthew Stafford era, whenever that officially arrives.

Spadaro: Eagles kick off voluntary offseason program taking nothing for granted – PE.com
Setting the tone. It is underway at the NovaCare Complex as the Eagles’ offseason program has started, and Head Coach Nick Sirianni is amped to be in the front of the room delivering the message. It is one of high expectations, digging in to attack every step along the way and to, more than anything, build on the culture that has landed his football team in the postseason in each of his first three seasons here. Moving forward. Looking ahead. Taking nothing for granted. “Your culture has to be reintroduced, redefined, and redemanded each and every offseason and it can’t just be something that you do one time. It has to be a habit, the way you live,” Sirianni told me at the NFL Annual Meeting just a few weeks ago. “You always look forward to that. It’s got to be at the forefront all the time.

NFL insider predicts Dallas Cowboys will take Texas WR Xavier Worthy in first round of draft – Blogging The Boys
You have likely seen somebody mock Worthy to Dallas on one occasion or another, but this feels a little bit more serious than that. This isn’t to say that it is a serious thing, but we have to consider the possibility if someone like Schrager is hearing this is a possibility from all of the people that he has spoken to. Consider that the next pick in the mock was Amarius Mims to the Green Bay Packers. Graham Barton went right after that to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jackson Powers-Johnson did not go at all (it was a first-round mock only). Dallas passing up legitimate help along the offensive line in the name of a wide receiver would be quite the choice. To be clear, wide receiver is definitely a need for the team with the future opposite of CeeDee Lamb a bit in doubt (assuming Lamb gets the extension, he is currently absent from voluntary workouts while seeking). Dallas should absolutely take a wideout at some point in the draft. But in the first round? With starting-quality linemen available? That seems a bit rich.

NFL Draft analyst tells BBV why the Giants are ‘desperate’ to get a quarterback – Big Blue View
Evidence that the New York Giants will go quarterback-hunting at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft is piling up. Peter Schrager’s mock draft, based on intel from general managers and coaches, is a major tell. Pro Football Focus lead draft analyst Trevor Sikkema recently said on the ‘Rich Eisen Show’ that he thought the Giants were “desperate” to make sure they got their quarterback of the future with their first selection in the draft. Sikkema explained why during an appearance on the ‘Valentine’s Views Show.’ “I would use the word desperate with the Giants just because I think that they were already a little on the fence with Daniel Jones,” Sikkema said. “You’ve seen some of the highs, but the consistency just has not been there at a level that you need it to be to really compete for the division at the top and obviously win a Super Bowl.

7 NFL Draft 2024 rumors including Ravens, Vikings, 49ers, Bills, Brock Bowers, and more – SB Nation
The Giants come up for J.J. McCarthy, in a trade with the Cardinals. This is in line with the thinking from Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus late last week that New York is “desperate” to move up for a quarterback.
