The full results from the Sam Howell trade between Seahawks, Commanders

Here’s what the Seahawks and Commanders did with the draft picks they exchanged in the Sam Howell trades.

When the Seattle Seahawks acquired backup quarterback Sam Howell from the Washington Commanders, a total of four draft picks were swapped. Seattle gave up one of its third-rounders and a fifth-rounder to Washington, who sent the Seahawks a fourth- and sixth-round pick.

With the 2024 NFL Draft done and dusted and picks made, we can now tally what both teams got out of the trade.

Seattle used the Washington fourth-rounder to trade down with the Denver Broncos, as well as pick up a fifth-rounder and move up from the seventh round into an extra sixth-round pick. After moving from No. 102 to No. 121, John Schneider took Michigan TE AJ Barner. With the fifth-rounder they drafted cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett, and their final pick of the draft was used on Findlay’s Michael Jerrell.

Meanwhile, the Commanders turned both picks from the Seahawks into a big trade within the second round that allowed them to get an extra second-rounder from the Philadelphia Eagles. Washington moved down from No. 40, got No. 50 and 53 from Philadelphia, and used those second-rounders on Michigan cornerback Mike Sainristil and Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott. Philadelphia and Washington also swapped fifth-round slots, with the Commanders moving down and taking former Washington Huskies safety Dominique Hampton.

We haven’t the slightest clue how this will play out in the long-term to determine a “winner.” Getting Seattle’s third-rounder allowed Washington to pick up an extra second (without giving up its native third-round pick), while Washington’s fourth-rounder gave the Seahawks a fifth-rounder it lost in the Howell trade.

Just bookmark this as something to look back on in a few seasons. How well Howell does (say that 10 times fast) will likely shape how this trade is viewed.
