Last November, Tammy Sytch (aka WWE Hall of Famer Sunny) was sentenced to 17 years in prison for her role in the death of 75-year-old Julian Lasseter.
In an interview conducted with TMZ last week, the 51-year-old Sytch described the poor medical treatment that she’s received at Lowell Correctional Institution in Marion County, Florida, for a severe blood clot that she’s been dealing with for the last few weeks.
“The world knows why I’m here…but when you’re here, you should be offered at least halfway decent medical treatment.
About three and a half, almost four weeks ago now, my left leg starts swelling up really really badly, from top of my knee all the way down to my toes…it basically looks like somebody put a bicycle tire pump on it and just inflated it twice the size.”
She said there are “funky colors,” and “it’s so swollen to the point where I can’t bend my toes or rotate my ankle.”
Tammy sought emergency medical attention about one week after the swelling began, but after six hours of waiting, the staff dismissed the idea that it was an emergency. Sytch said she was turned away without them even looking at her leg.
Her left leg continued to get worse without receiving any treatment:
“And now I had, about a week and a half ago, a huge red lump started forming right underneath my calf muscle…so it’s getting worse and the lump is probably about the size of a ping pong ball. And it’s bright red and really painful.”
Tammy says she forced the issue after three weeks of the staff acting like it’s nothing or simply ignoring her. An ultrasound was eventually taken, and it was advised that she be sent to the hospital:
“Apparently the ultrasound tech…she looked at it and told them, listen, she’s got a severe blood clot in her leg. You better take her to the hospital, she could die from this.”
The decision was made to treat her in the infirmary on site rather than an off ground hospital. Tammy says the treatment since then has remained inadequate, including one night where they completely failed to give her the necessary medication and blood thinners.
Tammy has had the same nightmare scenario running through her head during these last few weeks while suffering from this blood clot:
“My husband Chris Candido…died of the same kind of a blood clot in the same leg, after he had ankle surgery after a wrestling match. So all that’s been going through my mind for the past three weeks is oh my god, I’m gonna follow in his footsteps and die of a blood clot just like he did, because I can’t get medical treatment in this prison.”
Sytch thinks things are now “on track” with her medication, but her leg is “the same” for now as a result of this poor medical care.
