No 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz has learned his projected path to winning the French Open title.
Alcaraz kicks off his campaign against a qualifier, while he is projected to meet 85th-ranked Christopher O’Connell in the second round.
In the third round, Alcaraz will likely play a seed for the first time as he is projected to meet 26th-seeded Denis Shapovalov.
In the French Open round-of-16, Alcaraz is projected to meet No 14 seed Cameron Norrie – in February, Alcaraz defeated Norrie in the Buenos Aires final before losing to the Briton the following week in the Rio de Janeiro final.
In the French Open quarterfinal, Alcaraz is projected to meet 2021 French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Since Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic were placed in the same part of the draw, what many believe “final before the final” will happen in the French Open semifinal.
In the French Open final, Alcaraz is projected to meet No 2 seed Daniil Medvedev.
Will Alcaraz lift his first French Open title?
Last year, Alcaraz made the French Open quarterfinal before losing to Alexander Zverev.
But now, Alcaraz is a much better player and his chances of winning the French Open are definitely bigger this year.
Tim Henman, a Eurosport tennis expert, named Alcaraz as the No 1 French Open favorite.
“Not too many players can beat him [Alcaraz] on clay. He is so sound. He serves bigger, better, and more accurately. He doesn’t make mistakes. His movement is as good as I’ve ever seen. He has great variation, comes to the net, uses drop shots. His forehand and backhand from the back of the court are incredible. Could Sinner beat Alcaraz? Yes. Could Djokovic, yes? But if I had to choose a player to win the match, I would say Carlos,” Henman told Eurosport.
It remains to be seen if Alcaraz can win his second Grand Slam title at the French Open.
