Serena Williams’ religious anecdote: “Jehovah, give me the strength to stand up!”

on

23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has always been quite open about her faith in Jehovah. And she has always been grateful for a successful tennis career.

The former US tennis legend and former WTA number 1, in her book Queen of the Court, also detailed the moment her faith in God came strong. In one instance, she spoke of the difficulties she faced at Indian Wells 2001 when she was trying to clinch her second tournament title. She also revealed how that prayer changed her life at that point.

Serena wrote in the book, as reported by Essentially Sports: “I said a simple little prayer that almost changed my life. I said, Jehovah, give me the strength to get out of this chair. Give me the strength to finish this game. Give me the strength to persevere.

I actually said these words out loud. Well, not out loud in any kind of public speaking voice, but in a whisper, I could certainly hear above the din. I didn’t ask him to help me to win. I didn’t ask Him to help me with my serve.”

According to the American tennis star, there is always a point in life where everyone finds a spirituality for themselves and that’s what he did.

Serena Williams was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness

Life after tennis began for Serena Williams. In her post-game days, the former US tennis star, now 41, focused more on religion and has now been baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in Florida. “Being a Jehovah’s Witness is important to me, but I’ve never really practiced it and wanted to get into it,” Williams said in 2017, speaking to Vogue.

What did Serena Williams say about being a Jehovah’s Witness? When her daughter Olympia was approaching her and Williams ‘first birthdays di lei she said, “Olympia does n’t celebrate birthdays. We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we do n’t.” Serena said: “I have been trying to develop a better relationship with God.

You have a solid solid foundation, the Bible says, you will not collapse, but the man who built his house in the sand, his house went down spiritually. I have a really solid foundation. That’s how I grew up.”
