After overcoming an untimely interruption at the end of his round, Davis Riley secured a remarkable -6, without any bogeys, to claim the lead in the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, this Friday.

Riley heads into the weekend at -10, two strokes ahead of Pierceson Coody and Hayden Buckley, who both shot 65 to sit tied for second place at 8 under par.
Having scored five of his six birdies within a six-hole stretch midway through his round, Riley faced a 3-foot par putt on his final hole, the par-4 ninth, when play was suspended due to dangerous weather conditions at the Colonial Country Club.
The delay officially lasted an hour and nine minutes. Riley made good use of the time before returning to the green to sink his par putt.
Riley birdied holes 15 and 16 before sinking three more at numbers 18, 1, and 2. He capped off his day’s performance by sticking his approach shot on the sixth hole, a par 4, to three feet, and then draining the left-to-right breaking putt.
Riley’s sole victory on the PGA Tour came last year at the Zurich Classic, the New Orleans team event, alongside Nick Hardy. This year, he has missed seven of 14 cuts coming into Colonial.
World number one, Scottie Scheffler, was at risk of missing the cut after opening with a -2. He fared better on Friday, making four consecutive birdies to card a bogey-free 65 and bring his total to -3.
Among the players failing to make the cut are Harris English (+3), Colombian Camilo Villegas (+4), and Max Homa (+7).
Born in the town of Ridgewood, in the state of New Jersey, on June 21, 1996, into an affluent family, Scott and Diane Scheffler welcomed their son. He developed a passion for golf as a child, playing at the Highland Park in the city.
At the age of seven, he relocated with his family to Dallas.
Personal Life Scheffler is married to Meredith Scheffler (nee Scudder); the two met in high school and tied the knot in 2020.
Scheffler identifies as Christian. His sponsor for his confirmation in the Catholic Church was Rocky Hambric, founder of Hambric Sports, a sports management agency that has represented Scheffler since he turned professional. Scheffler and his close friend Sam Burns organize an annual retreat with members of the College Golf Fellowship, a faith-based ministry.

With his first major victory at the Masters tournament in April 2022, he secured his fourth win in his first six starts. The 57-day span between the four victories is the shortest in PGA Tour history. Additionally, he became the fifth golfer to win the Masters as the world number one, joining Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001 and 2002), and Dustin Johnson (2020).
On April 14, 2024, he clinched his second major title, once again winning the Augusta Masters with an overall score of -11 (66 72 71 68, 277 strokes), ahead of Ludvig Åberg who finished with a -7.
