Ryder star, the latest pearl to reject a Liv offer

on

Ludvig Aberg, the astute Swedish golfer, has recently rejected a succulent offer from the Arab Super League, believing that his integrity and love for the sport are more valuable than money. At 24 years old, Aberg has proven to be a true revelation on the PGA Tour, standing out in the European Masters, the RSM Classic and the Ryder Cup in Rome.

In an interview with SVT Sport, this member of the European Ryder Cup team emphasized the importance of competing for the passion of the sport rather than the lust for riches. Aberg thus joins the list of stars such as Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau, who declined offers from LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia.

Aberg’s decision largely reflects the change of mentality in the world of golf, where many players have chosen to remain true to their sporting principles and values without succumbing to the temptation of easy money. Aberg has shown that great success in golf can be achieved without sacrificing personal integrity.

Aberg’s desire is to face the best on the golf course, since his competitive spirit demands it. However, he recognizes that currently LIV Golf does not meet his expectations, since the environment is somewhat fragmented. When compared to the PGA Tour and its impressive history, Aberg finds an undeniable attraction, and that is where he wants to immerse himself. Although to be fair, all decisions must be respected. Currently Aberg, a Texas Tech graduate, is ranked 32nd in the Official World Golf Ranking.

LIV Golf is a professional golf tour. It was founded in 2022 with the support of the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund. The golf tour competes with the PGA Tour (USA) and the DP World Tour (Europe) and offers significantly higher prize money.

The name LIV refers to the total number of holes to be played at each tournament (54 in Roman numerals, equivalent to 3 rounds of 18 holes each), as opposed to the usual 72 holes (4 rounds of 18 holes each) on other tours . Alternatively, 54 is the score achieved by making birdie on every hole on a par-72 course.
