Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tanehill

The Tennessee Titans will be without quarterback Ryan Tannehill in Week 16 against the Houston Texans, according to NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano.

Tannehill was carted off the field Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers but returned in the second quarter, finishing the game.

The news also coincides with a report from The Athletic that Tannehill is “most likely” done for the year. According to Joe Rexrode, the Titans do not know whether Tannehill’s ankle requires surgery, but he will likely be unable to return this season outside of a late postseason run.

The Titans backup quarterback, rookie Malik Willis, previously started two games for the Titans during another Tannehill injury. In a combined seven appearances, Willis finished 17-for-38 for 177 yards and an interception with 20 rushes for 80 yards. Willis also started the previous matchup with the Houston Texans, Tennessee’s upcoming opponent.

In his fourth season with the Titans, Tannehill’s 3.6% passing DVOA would be the fourth-best of his career but second-worst with Tennessee. The Titans rank 21st in the NFL in offensive DVOA, but this would be the first time since 2012 that Tennessee’s passing DVOA outranks their rushing DVOA.
