Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- There was some confusion about Jinder Mahal’s release from WWE after he posted “I Quit” on the X platform. Fightful Select was told that it was in fact a release, rather than him quitting the company.
- According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Drew McIntyre’s WWE contract expires in late May. It was originally going to expire at the end of 2023, but WWE “tacked on several months due to time off for an injury.”
- WWE expects that McIntyre will re-sign with them, especially now that he is happy with his creative direction and position as one of the top stars in the company. There’s also a belief in WWE that “talent is less likely now to opt for AEW.”
- Regarding WWE’s investigation of Ronda Rousey’s accusation against Drew Gulak, The Observer was told that the people WWE interviewed about the matter “had nothing definitive to say either way.”
- Multiple outlets indicate The Creeds are expected to turn heel in WWE and join a stable with Chad Gable.
- PW Insider claims “there’s been talk recently of some former TNA talents – male and female – potentially returning.” There is speculation this could be related to the Lights Out mystery reveal that was teased for tonight’s Rebellion pay-per-view.
- F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer mentioned that Kenny Omega tried to avoid surgery for his diverticulitis, but “it looks like he will have it and is waiting for a date.”
- Per Meltzer, Jack Perry is finished with NJPW and will be “starting imminently in AEW.”
- WrestleVotes says GUNTHER’s return to WWE television is scheduled for next week’s (Apr. 22) episode of Raw.
