Both players earned 12 break chances, and Novak played better in the crucial moments. He saved nine break points and broke the opponent eight times to build an essential advantage.

The Serb had 28 winners and 32 unforced errors, overpowering the rival in the shortest rallies up to four strokes. Fucsovics fended off a break chance in the fourth game to get his name on the scoreboard and start his comeback.
