LoL will have new intro bots for two weeks

In their recent dev update about Leveling Up Bots, the game developers stated they wanted to create a “low-stakes, League-like experience that’s less stressful to practice and get better overall”, especially for those who are new to the game and need to learn the fundamentals of the game in a healthy way

As a result, Darcy “Riot DashiJador” Ludington and Emmett “Riot Sentanel” Coakley have confirmed they will be bringing the new introductory level bots for a trial run for two weeks somewhere between September and October. They will hit the PBE servers first.

According to the dev update, Riot has been working on the intro level bots first to improve the gaming experience for the newer players, but have confirmed they will be working on the other tiers as well.

What is changing?

Riot Games have said they wanted to try some new features that they think are needed, including:

  • Jungling
  • Ganking
  • Supporting each other
  • Role Selection (with appropriate rune, spell, and lane positions)
  • Taking objectives (like dragons and Baron)

How to try the new intro bots in LoL

Since they will only be available to the PBE servers, this means that you will have to down the League PBE Client. Remember that it will also be necessary to sign up for a new account since it’s different from the one you log onto the usual account.

After logging into the PBE, players should be able to see a new queue called “Beta Bots.”: It will be the queue with the new AI available! Unfortunately, PBE servers are only available in North America, which means EU and non-NA players will experience above-average ping which might hurt the gaming experience. Regardless, it should be enough to beat the “intro bots”, after all. Remember to check out when the new bots are going to be added to the client: you will only have two weeks of time to test them out.

What happens after the two-week period?

After the trial run, Riot Games has confirmed they will take down the new Beta Bots queue and everything on PBE will go back to normal. That said, they will be taking a look at player feedback to make improvements, ensure that the bots work on a wide variety of players’ specs, and fix potential bug issues. Then they will do the same process for the higher-rank bots which will eventually replace both Beginner and Intermediate bots.

According to the dev update, if everything goes according to plan, they will have the intro bots on the live servers somewhere next year after some more “iteration”. The beginner and intermediate bots will also follow through (but later).
