Robert Griffin III joined the Trap or Dive podcast previewing the NFL Draft and the outlook on the Washington Commanders

Robert Griffin III was a guest on the latest Trap or Dive episode. RG3, Washington’s former number two overall draft pick, spent four seasons with the team before moving on to the Cleveland Browns. His tenure in Washington went nowhere near as planned as he nor the fans envisioned after an incredible rookie season, but he has come a long way since that time, after spending seasons in other organizations, most notably the Baltimore Ravens for three seasons where he got to experience what a strong, functional organization looks like.

RG3 spent time with Trap or Dive discussing a multitude of topics, past and present, and with the help of his personal experience playing in the NFL, he understands just how an organization can succeed with a young quarterback coming into the NFL that needs structure.

When it comes to Commander Owner Josh Harris, General Manager Adam Peters, and Head Coach Dan Quinn, they will need to do two things to garner the trust and full support of their players and fans. One of them, according to RG3, is building an identity.

“When I went to Baltimore after leaving Washington and then to Cleveland, I played for two of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL. Then I went to one of the most stable ones in the NFL with the Ravens, and that probably is the best thing that ever happened to me from my playing career to see it from a different angle. I walk in the building, it’s “the team, the team, the team” all over the building. You walk in the weight room it’s “play like a Raven” all over the weight room. They create this sense of identity that you not only know what’s expected of you but can draw on when you’re on the field. So for Washington, I think Dan Quinn has to be the one who creates that identity, and he has to be empowered by Adam Peters and Josh Harris to make that who the Washington Commanders are.” – RG3 on why an identity is important for the Organization moving forward.
