The Jaguars have grown obsessed with former LSU players.

After finalizing its 2024 NFL Draft class with nine new players, the Jacksonville Jaguars have remained busy adding talent to its roster.

11 players were signed as undrafted free agents immediately following the draft, and two more were invited to Jacksonville’s rookie minicamp (May 10-11) to essentially try out for the team. One of those players is Jacksonville State center Trey Brown; the other is five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, “Landry is fully healthy and ready to return at the age of 31.”

Landry last played with the New Orleans Saints in 2022 but an ankle injury ended his season, and the Louisiana native sat out all of 2023. He did have a tryout with the Indianapolis Colts in December but Landry left without a contract offer.

Originally drafted 63rd overall in 2014, Landry set a Miami Dolphins record for most receptions by a rookie (84). In his second season, he set the franchise’s record for most receptions in a single season (110) to earn his first of five consecutive Pro Bowl nods.

In 2017, Landry was traded to the Cleveland Browns and signed an extension to play with Odell Beckham Jr., his former college teammate. Landry accrued 288 receptions and 3,560 yards in four seasons up north before signing with his hometown Saints as a free agent.

Landry is one of the more productive receivers of his era, but sadly, that era is just about over. The only wideouts who were drafted in 2014 or earlier and ranked top 50 in receiving yards last season are Mike Evans, DeAndre Hopkins, Davante Adams, Keenan Allen and Adam Thielen.

For the Jaguars, this may be a sign that they’re not quite content with their receiver room, even after drafting Brian Thomas Jr. at 23rd overall a few days ago.
