The Los Angeles Rams brought in undrafted free agent Drake Stoops and he may have a real chance to complete with Ben Skowronek going to the Houston Texans. Perhaps you think LA’s receiver depth is too thin? Either way Stoops’s father coached college and seem elated that his son has a chance to compete for a spot in Sean Mcvay’s system.

“I love it, I think it’s a great fit,” said the elder Stoops. “Love Coach (Sean) McVay, just watching him. Don’t really personally know him, but I’ve always respected and appreciated the way they coach and play design and everything they do. Really solid program and he does a great job.”

The Rams have been able to generate major value out of players that nobody saw coming and maybe Stoops could be the next. Last season with the Sooners, he posted 84 catches for 962 yards and 10 touchdowns.”

“Skowronek, who turns 27 next month, has been with the Los Angeles Rams for the past three seasons. Last year, he caught eight passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. The previous year, he played a more impactful role in the Rams offense, catching 39 passes for 376 yards while starting in 11 games.

It remains to be seen how Skowronek figures into the Texans’ receiver plans, but with Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Robert Woods, Noah Brown and John Metchie III also in the room, there is no guarantee of any major role in the offense.”

We now have the latest example of this. It’s absolutely outrageous. NFL on CBS released its first quarterback rankings for the 2024 season.

You will not believe where Stafford lands. He comes in at 16, sandwiched in between Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars and injury-plagued Cleveland Browns signal-caller Deshaun Watson (yes, this Deshaun Watson).”

We already covered one of the UDFA safeties signed by the Rams, Jaylen McCollough, so let’s tackle another one. Search engine AI thinks I’m more interested in Kenny Loggins than in Kenny Logan Jr., the former Kansas safety. Is Logan ready to get footloose and kick off his Sunday shoes? Come roster cutdown day, will Logan end up in the Danger Zone? Can he stick with the Rams or will Dallas grab him with a waiver claim and he’ll end up playing with the Boys? If asked about his abilities, I imagine Logan would confidently say “I’m alright” but that’s just what a fool believes. Maybe signing Logan as an UDFA was a brilliant move or maybe Snead just got caught up in the moment while listening to a Debbie Gibson playlist.

In 2011, Chris Harris Jr. was an UDFA defensive back from Kansas. According to Harris, he got the smallest signing bonus among all the Broncos UDFAs that year, only $2,000. Harris would become one of the top CBs in the NFL and would be a slam dunk 1st round pick in a redraft. Surprisingly, he wasn’t an accomplished CB in college. Harris was a 2-star recruit who focused more on basketball than football in HS. He split time between slot and outside CB for most of his KU career but didn’t get many INTs. His senior season, he split time between CB and FS, making 6 starts at each position. In his final 3 seasons at KU, he only had 1 INT. His senior was particularly unimpressive in ball production, with only one PD, amazingly low for a player who started half the year at CB. He measured 5’9’’ tall and 194 pounds and was considered too small to be a good prospect as either a CB or a S.

Kansas is also the alma mater of All-Pro safety Nolan Cromwell, drafted by the Rams 31st overall in 1977, and All-Pro cornerback LeRoy Irvin, drafted by the Rams in 1980.”
