Getting to know veteran speed wide receiver

The Las Vegas Raiders’ added wide receiver Jalen Guyton in free agency this offseason.

We will be getting to know him more very quickly, but here are five aspects of Guyton the player and person that Raiders fans should know:

Telesco history:

Guyton is an answer to a trivia question. He is the first former Los Angeles Chargers’ player the Raiders signed since Tom Telesco became their general manager. Telesco, of course, was the Chargers’ general manager from 2013 until last December when he was fired. Guyton played for Telesco and the Chargers from 2019-23.

Speed element:

Guyton can burn. That is his attraction to the Raiders. He gives them speed at the bottom of the rotation. The best chance for Guyton — who has 71 receptions for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns in his career — to make the roster, would be as the fifth receiver. So, his speed gives him a strong chance to stick out in training camp and in the preseason.

UDFA history:

One of Telesco’s strengths as the Chargers’ general manager was identifying undrafted free agents. He hit on several of them during his Chargers’ tenure. Guyton was one of them. While his career stats haven’t been overwhelming, sticking around the NFL for six seasons is an accomplishment for the undrafted free agent.
