Using his draft history, here are the Raiders’ GM’s options he might desire in the 2024 NFL draft

The Las Vegas Raiders’ new general manager, Tom Telesco, is the Raiders’ first veteran at the position. With over 30 years of scouting and front-office experience, Mark Davis hoped that a seasoned decision-maker could push the team to success.

Telesco was the GM of the Los Angeles Chargers for the past ten seasons. He built teams full of stars, but it didn’t lead to consistent wins on the football field. The former Chargers GM’s efficiency with first—and second-round picks is part of the reason he built preseason excitement. He drafted Pro Bowl and All-Pro players who produced at a high level.

It becomes essential for Raiders fans with the blunders of first-round selections who have walked through the facility. Telesco has a formula that has led to players contributing, mixed with star power. Telesco’s view on the quarterback position is what fans and media are excited about.

Using Arjun Menon from the PFF tool, we can see Telesco’s tendencies. He is a fan of quarterbacks with size and athleticism built for today’s game. The rumored first-round quarterbacks fit the profile, with a few coming right under thresholds.

Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

Height-6’3

Weight-223

When looking into the numbers, Drake Maye stands out as a fit. Maye is 6’3 and 223 pounds in comparison to Justin Herbert. He has the athleticism displayed on film using his ability to make plays outside of the pocket. Maye does come with mechanical issues but is a high-upside player.

If the Raiders go with Maye, it would have to be a trade while he is in the top ten. He would need to be coached to reach his potential, but he would add star power for the Raiders.

Jayden Daniels

Height-6’4

Weight-210

Jayden Daniels is the next player with the most significant buzz about being the Raiders’ next quarterback. Daniel has the height and athleticism that Telesco covets. He is a fifth-year senior, and Telseco has never drafted underclassmen at quarterback.

Of course, Telesco’s issue will be his weight. Daniels was 210 pounds at his pro day, where he had a private meeting with the Raiders. If Telesco sticks to his guns and decides to pass on Daniels’s slim frame, it could sway towards Maye.

Michael Penix

Height-6’3

Weight-216

40 time- 4.58

Michael Penix is the player most connected to the Raiders by the Media. He fits Telesco as he hits every metric while having the desired dropbacks. Penix had a wonderful two years at Washington after struggling with injuries at Indiana.

Penix is expected to rise in the draft but could be available in the second round. If he is, expect the Raiders to pounce and add him to the quarterback room.
