With the 31st pick in the Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the 49ers select…

The San Francisco 49ers are finally on the clock in our 2024 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft with the 31st pick.

Last year, the 49ers had a dominant season, culminating with a win in the [GAME REDACTED] but a disappointing loss in the Super Bowl to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Acting as general manager for the 49ers in this mock is commenter StevenGreen8. To catch up on the previous 30 picks, make sure you head to our 2024 POD Community Mock tracker.

With the 31st pick in the POD Community Mock, the 49ers select Tyler Guyton, offensive tackle out of Oklahoma.

Here’s StevenGreen8 explaining the pick:

“The biggest departures for the San Francisco 49ers have come along the defensive line, with the likes of Arik Armstead, Javon Kinlaw, and Chase Young finding new homes. While this made a pick for someone like Darius Robinson or Braden Fiske options, the 49ers have also spent a lot of resources replacing those positions through free agency—allowing them to stick to a best player available mindset, where I think better value is available at other positions at this point in our mock draft.

“With most of the obvious holes filled for the upcoming season (outside of some needed depth pieces—stay away from Brock Wright!), we can take a look at how the 49ers’ contracts look, where there are a ton of concerns for several positions, similarly to the Detroit Lions. Who are you going to pay?

“With players like Brandon Aiyuk possibly on the way out the door and the defensive backfield seeing both of its starting cornerbacks’ contracts coming due soon (while also having the likes of Logan Ryan retire), could those be positions to look at? While this isn’t a great year to take the top safety available in the first, could a cornerback like Ennis Rakestraw make sense to solidify that position for the future?

“With all of these possibilities, the biggest glaring issue I could find was on the offensive line, where a majority of the starters aren’t under contract past this upcoming season. To make matters worse, as mentioned by 49ers writer and podcaster, Rob Guerrera, the weakness of this team started and ended with right tackle Colton McKivitz going into the playoffs.

“That brings us to our choice: OT Tyler Guyton out of Oklahoma. He’s huge (6-foot-8), possesses raw traits and athleticism, but due to a one-year extension for McKivitz, could sit-and-learn/compete for a season before the lack of long-term contracts on the offensive line comes to a head. While fellow tackles Kingsley Suamataia and Jordan Morgan would also be under consideration, Guyton figures to be the best pure offensive tackle left available to secure the future on the outside of the line alongside Trent Williams.”
