Paula Badosa reveals the suffering she experienced in the last year

Paula Badosa has reached the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, a tournament where she has always done well and where she played yesterday beating the Russian rising star Mirra Andreeva. The Spaniard is about to challenge the American Emma Navarro in the second round (with the match scheduled in these minutes). Paula gave an interview to Tennis Channel, talking about the Rome tournament, her victory with Andreeva and how recent times have been very hard for her.

“It’s always nice to come back here, the one with Mirra was a great victory. She’s a great player and has an incredible future, I love how competitive she is and I think she has a very promising future ahead of her. I followed my game plan throughout the match and I’m happy that it went well. I think in her case you have to deal with your emotions and it’s never easy, I think she’ll do it easily and she’s a smart player.

Goals? I honestly don’t have any, I’m just trying to enjoy the court. I want to play as much as possible, maybe two or three matches in a row. Last year I got injured in Rome and a lot of things have changed since then, Emma is one of the best on the circuit and she is having an incredible year. I hope it will be a good fight. Lately I’ve found myself playing but due to my injury I realized that I couldn’t play too many matches in a row. I also think mentally she has affected my esteem a lot and I am working every day to reach the top,” she said.

Badosa comes from a difficult period. In addition to the usual physical problems that have been characterizing her career for months now, the talented and beautiful Spanish tennis player announced, shortly before the Internazionali BNL d’Italia tournament, the end of her relationship with the Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas. The two, despite the farewell, still remained on excellent terms. The fans were very curious about what happened between the two. Paula and Stefanos, to constantly update their fans, had opened a shared account on social media. Suddenly the Spanish tennis player shocked everyone in the last few days – just before her first round in the Rome tournament – with the announcement of the end of the relationship between the two tennis players.

Speaking with Tennis.com, Badosa talked about many topics and among many things also addressed the end of her relationship with Tsitsipas. Paula said that the breakup between the two of hers partly reminded her of that between two tennis players, Grigor Dimitrov and the Russian Maria Sharapova.

“When we were both well the relationship was fantastic. Other times it can happen that, given our careers and our affairs, we come to the decision to separate our lives. Our story reminded me of that between Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov where you meet the right person but at the wrong time. I think it was like that for us too. Emotionally it hasn’t been easy these days but I’m a strong person, so I’m trying to face everything in the most decisive way possible. I’m proud of myself and how I’m dealing with everything,” she explained.
