Paula Badosa says her relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas reminded her in some ways of Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov as the Spanish tennis star suggests the Greek may have been the right person for her but just came in “the wrong moment.”
Over this past weekend, 26-year-old Badosa announced in a message posted on her Instagram Story that she and 25-year-old Tsitsipas decided to end their love story. Before splitting, Badosa and Tsitsipas dated for nearly a full year as the two went public with their relationship in early 2023 June.
While Badosa and Tsitsipas often posted about their moments together, there were also some challenging times experienced during their relationship. Since sustaining a back injury in Rome last year, Badosa has had a very hard time with her back issue and recently shared that it is chronic and that in the best case scenario she will be able to play for three or four more years.
A decade ago, Sharapova and Dimitrov were tennis’ power couple and dated for two years between 2013 and 2015.

“When we were great, the relationship was great. Other times, we have our own careers, our own things, and sometimes it’s better to separate ways,” Badosa told tennis.com.
“This reminds me a lot of the story of Maria [Sharapova] and Grigor [Dimitrov], where you meet the right person but maybe in the wrong moment. It’s a little bit like this.”

Two days after announcing she ended things with Tsitsipas, Badosa started her Rome Open campaign with a 6-2 6-3 win over Mirra Andreeva.
“Emotionally, it hasn’t been easy these past days, but I’m a strong person, so I’m trying to deal with everything as much as I can. I’m quite proud of myself, with how I’m doing,” Badosa said.
In her next Rome match, Badosa plays against Emma Navarro.
