Patrick Sjoland won European Senior Masters

With a good finish Emanuele Canonica ranked in sixth place with 214 (72 73 69, -5), recovering from 15th, in the Farmfoods European Senior Masters, the Legends Tour tournament played on the South Course (par 73) of La Manga Club, in Cartagena, Spain.

The Swede Patrick Sjoland, winner of an Italian Open (1998, Castelconturbia), prevailed with 205 (67 70 68, -14), preceding the Argentine Ricardo Gonzalez, second with 206 (-13), and the another Swede Mikael Lundberg, third with 209 (-10). Immediately behind were two Englishmen, Phillip Archer, fourth with 211 (-8), and Paul Eales, fifth with 213 (-6), while Canonica was joined by the Brazilian Adilson Da Silva, the New Zealander Michael Long, the Scot Euan McIntosh, the the Argentinian José Coceres and the Englishman Van Phillips. In 16th position with 217 (-2) the Scot Paul Lawrie, who was defending the title.

In the first two rounds a pro-am took place concurrently with the professionals supported by an amateur. The Swede Michael Jonzon and the amateur Alfie Hunt won with 128 (-18), ahead of the Paul Eales/Howard Rishton pair. The Canonica/Stephen Nichols duo finished 23rd with 136 (-10).

The Rules of Golf are a set of standard rules and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, outside of the United States and Mexico, which are the jurisdiction of the United States Golf Association. An expert commission made up of members of the R&A and USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision is effective January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that in certain cases reduce penalties to ensure balance. The rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf”, is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy it is up to Federgolf to supervise the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
