What is your favorite memory memory of the Lions playing in primetime?
It felt like for so long, the thought of the Detroit Lions playing in primetime was just something for fans in the Motor City to dream about. Other teams would see three, four, even five primetime games on their schedule at the turn of a new season, but for a while, we just had the Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit as far as national audiences were concerned.
However, under this new era of Lions football, all that has changed. Their Week 15 matchup against the Denver Broncos on Saturday night at Ford Field will be their fourth of the season (with a fifth vs. Cowboys upcoming)—a far cry from several years ago when the Lions couldn’t even garner one primetime matchup.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
What is your favorite primetime Lions’ memory?
My Answer: For myself, we are winding the clocks back to 2011. I turned 21 the night of the October 10, 2011—the night where after years of not hosting a primetime game at Ford Field, the then 4-0 Lions hosted the Chicago Bears with a chance to make it five straight to begin the season.
The atmosphere inside the stadium is still something I think about to do this day. The Bears committed five false start penalties, everyone had fun, and the Lions went on to win 24-13.
Maybe it was the fact that I had just turned the legal drinking age, but to me, the best part of the night was when former Lions running back Jahvid Best broke lose for an 88-yard touchdown run that almost blew the top off Ford Field.
