The ratings and viewership data are in for the May 7 episode of WWE NXT.

According to Wrestlenomics, the show averaged 659,000 viewers and scored a 0.19 rating among 18-49 year olds. Both are way up from the previous Tuesday’s worst-in-almost-a-year numbers. The overall audience is up 17% week-over-week, while the demo is a 36% increase.

Competition came from the usual sources at this time of year, but WWE may have been helped by two lopsided NBA Playoff games. NXT mostly aired against the Boston Celtics blowout of the Indiana Pacers, which was watched by 3.51 million and did a 1.18 in 18-49 on TNT and TruTV. Oklahoma City’s easy win over Dallas tipped off at 9:30pm ET and drew an audience of 3.68 million with a 1.29 demo rating on the same two channels. Those numbers come from SportsMediaWatch, which points out that they are way off what the start of the second round did for the NBA & its partners last year.

Thanks to double overtime, NXT only aired against one hockey game. The New York Rangers win over the Carolina Hurricanes drew 1.93 million and a .63 rating for ESPN.

Whatever the competition, it’s a big rebound for NXT with a show that shined a spotlight on the brand’s women’s division.

Can they keep it up next Tuesday? We’ll find out. In the meantime…
