Novak Djokovic’s father Srdjan fractures two body parts, set for surgery in Belgrade

Novak Djokovic’s father Srdjan reportedly suffered a fractured shoulder and upper arm, which will require surgery.

On Sunday afternoon, Serbian media reported that Djokovic was spotted entering the emergency center in Belgrade with an apparent arm injury.

Later, those reports were indeed confirmed and Djokovic was also spotted arriving with his brother Marko to check on their father. 

After getting it scanned, it was revealed that Djokovic’s father had fractured two parts of his upper body. According to Sport Klub, Srdjan was then transferred to the orthopedics department. After having surgeries to repair his shoulder and upper arm, Djokovic senior will stay in hospital for treatment.

According to Serbian media, Srdjan fell out of his chair while feeding birds and that’s how he sustained the injuries.

Djokovic is also currently in Belgrade

Early this week, Djokovic was in Madrid for the Laureus World Sports Awards, where he was named the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for the fifth time. But after getting the award, Djokovic didn’t stay in Madrid for the Madrid Masters – but that was something that was announced days earlier.

Instead, Djokovic returned home, where he is preparing for the Rome Masters and the French Open. For Djokovic, the main focus in the upcoming period is being at his very best when the time comes for the French Open and Paris Olympics. 

In Madrid, 36-year-old Djokovic highlighted how important the Paris Olympics will be to him since this could be his last Olympic appearance and last chance to finally win his first gold medal.

“Well, I’m thinking about it and I, I think it is possible if I don’t think it’s possible, I probably would not be playing Olympic Games. So, you know, you always have to believe that everything is possible in life. And the Olympic Games are the oldest and most prestigious sporting events in the history of the sport. It’s a huge honor to be representing Serbia in the Olympic Games,” Djokovic said.
