Novak Djokovic says staying healthy and being a Grand Slam contender is his top priority at this stage of his career.

Djokovic, who will be turning 36 in May, started his 2023 season by winning his 22nd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

Djokovic is now tied with Rafael Nadal for the most Grand Slams in men’s tennis history.

“I’m 36 this year, so I just don’t think at the moment this is highest priority. I would like to stay healthy and prolong my career as much as I can to play on this highest level. That’s the one priority. The other priority is playing the best tennis in Grand Slams, trying to win more Grand Slams. Then if No. 1 ranking in the world comes as a consequence of good results, I’ll be very happy,” Djokovic said, per Sportskeeda

After winning the Australian Open, Djokovic also replaced Carlos Alcaraz at the world No 1 spot.

This week, Djokovic entered his 378th week at the top spot, surpassing Steffi Graf for the most weeks spent at the top spot.

Djokovic currently has 6,980 ranking points.

“I think this is the least points I’ve had as No. 1. It happens. It’s not only due to my circumstances of not playing couple of Grand Slams and everything that happened last year, but also other players, some players missing some Slams for injuries, some players not having the biggest of consistency, so to say. This week, Djokovic is trying to win his sixth Dubai title.
