Novak Djokovic risks missing many tournaments in 2023: what happens?

on

Shortly before the end of the season, Novak Djokovic received clearance to travel to Australia. The Serbian tennis player will start his 2023 by playing the ATP 250 in Adelaide and then he will go in search of his tenth seal at the Australian Open.

Fans are hoping Djokovic can play more tournaments in 2023, but the latest news isn’t reassuring in that regard. Novak will be able to play in the 2023 Australian Open, but his presence in Indian Wells and Miami is in serious doubt.

The US government has imposed further restrictions due to the increase in cases in China. The US has indeed joined India, Italy, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia and Japan in announcing new measures after the abrupt end of the zero-Covid policy in China caused a sudden increase in cases in recent days.

“All foreign passengers traveling to the United States must prove they are fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus. Only limited exceptions apply to this requirement,” the current guidelines read.

Given what happened in 2022, Nole seriously risks having to skip the US Open and all the American Masters 1000 also in 2023.

What happened him in 2022

2022 has certainly not been an easy year for Novak Djokovic. The Serbian champion encountered many difficulties due to his choice not to get vaccinated against the Coronavirus and ended up in the eye of the storm following the Australian soap opera.

The former ATP number 1 had to give up the Australian Open and the US Open, two tournaments in which he would have been the main favorite to win. The 35-year-old from Belgrade also missed all the American Masters 1000, as well as having suffered serious damage to his image.

It took longer than expected to review the best Nole, who won his seventh Wimbledon title equaling Pete Sampras. The 21-time Grand Slam champion enriched his year by also winning the ATP Finals in Turin, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, the ATP 500 in Astana and the ATP 250 in Tel Aviv.
