Germain Ifedi the latest free agent addition for GM Andrew Berry

Just as we write a free agency article that says “Just over a week away from the NFL draft, NFL free agency has basically ground to a halt,” the Cleveland Browns go out and prove us wrong the following day.

A day after Justin Murray retired from the team’s offensive line depth and a week after the Browns traded away Leroy Watson, GM Andrew Berry had a hole to fill. Cleveland’s top three offensive tackles (Jedrick Wills, Jack Conklin, Dawand Jones) are all coming back from season-ending injuries last year which also hurts the team’s depth when workouts begin.

Berry quickly found a veteran to take Murray’s spot on the roster in Germain Ifedi:

Ifedi spent the first four years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. He then moved on to the Chicago Bears for two seasons and then was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022.

As noted above, Ifedi was with the Buffalo Bills last year but didn’t see the field in a regular season game.

The Browns are expected to draft a player on the offensive line early in next week’s draft but, as seen in 2023, depth on the line is vital due to injury issues at the position.
