Negreira could escape justice because of his Alzheimer’s disease!

It is a story that is shaking all of Spain and which is far from having delivered its verdict. Accused of having received more than six million euros from Barça since 2001 for “arbitral advice”, the former number two in Spanish arbitration, José Maria Enriquez Negreira, could escape justice. Indeed, he would suffer from the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and would have invoked the right not to testify because of his state of health, according to information fromSpanish. His illness was indicated in the medical report presented by his lawyer to the judicial police unit in charge of the investigation and attached to the public prosecutor’s office.

Negreira not responsible?

Depending on the degree of his illness, Negreira may not be found criminally responsible if the public prosecutor brings the results of his investigation before a judge. As a reminder, Spanish justice is looking at the period 2016-2018, the last two years of payment from Barça to number two in Spanish arbitration. Five years ago, the latter even threatened to reveal a “scandal” if the Catalan club stopped paying him. This affair is causing a lot of talk in Spain and has provoked the reaction of several La Liga clubs including Real Madrid and Sevilla FC.
