Nationals To Select Trey Lipscomb

on

The Nationals are planning to select infielder Trey Lipscomb, reports Andrew Golden of The Washington Post. Lipscomb would replace Nick Senzel on the active roster. The third baseman broke his thumb in practice before Washington’s Opening Day game. The Nationals’ 40-man roster is full, so the team will need to make a corresponding move to add Lipscomb. That move could be placing Senzel on the 60-day IL, although a broken thumb doesn’t always necessitate such a long stint on the injured list.

Drafted in the third round out of the University of Tennessee in 2022, Lipscomb made his way up to Double-A last season. He hit .284/.310/.438 with a 102 wRC+ in 80 games for the Harrisburg Senators. While he is primarily a third baseman, he showed off his defensive versatility at Double-A, spending time at all four infield positions. He also began to practice as an outfielder this spring, per Golden.

More to come.
