Morocco condemns racist chants of Algerian fans

While the CHAN 2022 (African Nations Championship) officially started this Friday with the meeting Algeria – Libya (1-0) at the start of the ball, several scenes came to spoil the party in the stands of the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki. Indeed, several racist slogans against the Moroccan supporters were chanted throughout the match by some Algerian supporters. This Saturday, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation made a point of reacting via a press release by also denouncing a political speech by a personality during the ceremony.

“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) strongly denounces and condemns the malicious actions and despicable maneuvers that marked the opening of the 7th edition of the African Nations Championship for Local Players (CHAN), Friday, January 13, 2023 in Algeria. in particular following the provocative and surreal speech which flouted the regulations governing the organization of football events under the aegis of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The FRMF rejects the racist remarks made by supporters present at the opening ceremony towards the Moroccan public known throughout the world for its civic-mindedness.
