Recently, Team Heretics finalised an exclusive deal with the Florida Mutineers, agreeing to merge the two brands and surface in the Call of Duty League as the Miami Heretics. It has been a few years since Team Heretics was seen in the top-flight Call of Duty space – ever since the CDL became a franchised league, but now, the organisation is back. It was a few months ago now that rumours of this move surfaced, but it’s only now that the deal has been signed with ink.
At present, the starting roster for the Miami Heretics isn’t yet known, but it will feature an all-Spanish squad when the season goes live – the first of its kind in the CDL. Currently, that date isn’t known either – it’s expected that it’ll be revealed at the Call of Duty NEXT showcase that’s due to take place on October 5th, 2023.
The Heretics Are Coming
At present, there is a group of players making up the backbone of the Miami Heretics, but it hasn’t been confirmed which of them will comprise the core four-man roster when the season kicks off. Right now, the players preparing to fly the Miami Heretics banner are:
- Javier ‘Vikul’ Milagro
- Alejandro ‘Lucky’ Lopez
- Adrian ‘MettalZ’ Serrano
- Juan ‘JurNii’ Antonio González Munoz
- Eric ‘EriKBoooM’ Ferrer
- Jorge ‘MethodZ’ Bancells (Coach)
Ultimately, this doesn’t mean too much for the Call of Duty League, aside from the diversification note. Despite almost the entire organisation hailing from Spain, the Miami Heretics is obviously not a European squad on paper – it’s a North American team. It’s still up to the London Royal Revens to represent Europe – which has been a real struggle for the organisation in recent years.
What About The Rest of the League?

There are plenty of goings-on across the Call of Duty esports space at the moment. Most recently, Minnesota Rokkr (Verion1) merged with G2 Esports, and there are expectations that a rebrand will take place in the near future. Elsewhere, organisations and players are busy tidying up their rosters ahead of the impending launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, which is due to drop on November 10th.
We’ve not seen any major movement for a while, aside from Minnesota Rokkr releasing most of its roster. At the start of the month, the New York Subliners picked up Sib to replace Priestahh, and the Seattle Surge reportedly settled on a roster featuring Arcitys, iLLeY, Huke, and Abuzah. And, of course, Pred and Kenny were carried across to fill out OpTic Texas’ superstar roster.
It’s a busy time for Call of Duty fans at present, with a new game on the horizon, beta dates drawing ever closer, and Call of Duty NEXT being scheduled to take place in little more than a month. Are you excited for everything that’s coming?
