Memphis Depay, the incredible return

on

Memphis Depay left FC Barcelona for Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, ending a year-and-a-half spell with the Blaugrana.

Depay was frustrated during the first half of the season at Barcelona after seeing his opportunities at the club limited during the season. He has been looking to leave all season to get more regular playing time and after much speculation he was finally granted a move to La Liga rivals Barcelona. However, there was a move to the Netherlands in the cards and a return to his former club PSV who were open to bringing him back..

Memphis considering a return to PSV

PSV were left without attacking after Cody Gakpo left Liverpool during the winter transfer window and needed a replacement. Depay was open to returning to the club, where he started his professional career. Depay’s first stint at PSV was successful as he won the Eredivisie title in 2015 before joining Manchester United that year. In total, he scored 49 goals in 124 appearances for PSV and won three major trophies with the Dutch club before his move to the Premier League.

He was even called up to the Dutch national team for the 2014 World Cup, where he enjoyed a positive summer under Louis van Gaal. Over the past year, Depay has been linked with several moves, with clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham interested in him before sealing a move to Atletico Madrid.
