Who will be the 2022 Footballer of the Year? Each year, this prestigious title is awarded by France Football along with the Ballon d’Or. FIFA also awards its own prizes through The Best trophy ceremony. The winner of 2022 will be known on February 27, in Paris. The body has unveiled the list of players named for the past twelve months.
Messi, Mbappé and Benzema favorites
While Karim Benzema is obviously the favorite after winning the Ballon d’Or, the Real Madrid centre-forward will have prime competitors for this second major award. The Ballon d’Or was awarded before the World Cup. The Best prize will take into account the world competition, which crowned Lionel Messi’s Argentina in Qatar, after an epic final where Kylian Mbappé achieved an exceptional performance.
The two Paris Saint-Germain superstars are logically named, just like their friend Neymar and other players who have distinguished themselves in 2022. Kevin De Bruyne, Vinicius Jr, Erling Haaland, Sadio Mané or even Mohamed Salah shone in the Champions League, while youngsters Jude Bellingham or Julian Alvarez revealed themselves during the World Cup, where Achraf Hakimi and Luka Modric also achieved a remarkable career.
