Matteo Manassero: “Probably perfect week”

on

Behind a great man is a great woman. In Copenhagen the great woman was not behind but alongside a great man. In the successful return to Europe of Matteo Manassero there is also his wife. In fact, Francesca acted as his caddy in Denmark and certainly did well. It is easy to imagine who the statement is dedicated to.

Matteo Manassero, statements

“It was probably the perfect week for many situations – said Manassero at the end of the stage of the Challenge Tour – and now I feel many sensations. My wife never does it but today she followed me on the pitch as a caddie. I went through a difficult and long phase of my career which now allows me to savor this beautiful moment more. In that long phase I also did something good”.

Matteo Manassero is one of the most loved golfers in our country. It will be for his face as a good boy, it will be for having forged ahead in professionalism. In fact, each of his races is followed in a particular way. “How are you doing Manassero? How much did Manassero do on the Challenge?” are the questions that most circulate at an amateur level when it comes to professional golf. It’s been happening for years. Ever since he won Wentworth ten years ago. “What has changed since that May? I’m ten years older – he jokes -. I’ve experienced many negative moments over the years but today I’m here to raise this trophy which means a lot to me. Maybe in the past I didn’t fully appreciate my successes but this time I will”.

The 30-year-old, from Verona from Negrar, is the second Italian to have established himself in all three continental golf circuits. Before him only Marco Crespi. In his palmarès before Sunday 28 May there were four successes on the DP World Tour (Castello Masters 2010, Malaysian Open 2011, Singapore Open 2012 and BMW PGA Championship 2013) and one on the Alps Tour (Tuscany Alps Open 2020).

And to say that Thursday had started very badly. “This sport is so strange. Thursday – he explains – I could easily close with one more shot and not pass the cut. I started the week with a lot of doubts about my game, doubts about a field that doesn’t forgive if you don’t play well. But then you play, sweat and click that click… Friday went better, it was a bit crazy. I never looked at the leaderboard on Sunday, to be honest. I only did it on the 18th when I realized I only had one stroke ahead and one hole still to play. I knew I had to attack her like I’ve been doing these days. I needed the birdie. I was fine on the pitch, focused on every single shot, on my routine. However, I understood what was happening around me”.

Woe to making long-term plans. Now the Challenge Tour moves to the Czech Republic with the D+D REAL Czech Challenge scheduled at the Panorama Golf Resort from Thursday.
