Matt Hardy talks about those Bray Wyatt teases he’s been posting on X

WWE is in the midst of a viral campaign that most believe is leading to the return of Bo Dallas as the Uncle Howdy character we last saw during Bray Wyatt’s final program before his death. The clues we’ve been given are reminiscent of the “White Rabbit” chase that preceded Wyatt’s 2022 return to WWE, and seem to fit with talk of Howdy being part of a group that would have been key to Bray’s story had we not tragically lost him last summer.

Matt Hardy, who worked closely with Wyatt when they were both with WWE in the 2010s and is currently a free agent after his AEW contract expired at the end of last month, generated a lot of speculation he might be headed back to WWE as part of Howdy’s group when he posted several clips of his work with Bray on social media this week.

Hardy was asked about those posts by his co-host Jon Alba on a new The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast:

“Yeah, I mean, full disclosure, I am doing what I should be doing as a free agent — creating hype around myself.

“Yes, I have been speaking with AEW, constantly. I’ve been speaking with WWE. I‘ve been speaking with several people across several different platforms. So I think the next couple weeks are gonna be fun, the next few weeks are gonna be fun. As I said before, I think we’re getting to the point where we’re gonna be doing some pretty cool stuff coming up.

“So yeah, I am doing what I should be doing. My job as a brand — and I have to look at myself as a brand, a lot of my social media stuff is Matt Hardy brand — my job as a brand is to promote myself and to create buzz around myself. And I feel like I do a… pretty decent job with it, whenever I am able to just freelance and do whatever.”

Alba & Hardy then discussed the various rumors surrounding a Howdy return and WWE apparently deciding to continue Wyatt’s story posthumously. They expressed many of the same concerns fans and pundits have been discussing about the idea, but Matt said he thinks there’s a lot of potential there as well. It’s something he’d be interested in being a part of, as is any opportunity to return to his “Broken” character. That’s because the gimmick is more “entertainment driven” and means Matt will be called on less to wrestle as the “Xtreme” version of himself that originally made him and his younger brother Jeff stars in the 1990s.

Regarding Broken Matt as part of the Wyatt 6, Hardy already has some ideas in mind…

“If [Broken Matt’s drone sidekick] Vanguard-1 shows up and a hologram pops up, from here on out, the hologram — we can do in AI — it’s Bray Wyatt. And he is the one that is the mind of the group, and he is leading the group, he’s the beacon of light that carries thing on. I think that’s something that’s very important, and I think would help make this a success as well.”

The fact Hardy is sharing this idea on his pod probably means WWE isn’t going to use it… which is a good call, at least in this writer’s opinion.

But let us know what you think, and whether you think Matt is headed to WWE, back to AEW (or maybe TNA?), in the comments below.
