LIV Golf Inspires Ronnie O’Sullivan’s Vision for Snooker’s Future

on

Snooker legend, Ronnie O’Sullivan, has spoken about his future in the world of snooker, but surprised many when he began talking about LIV Golf and its significance for the sport. Ronnie O’Sullivan is considered by many to be the best snooker player in the world, a testament to his numerous achievements.

However, one aspect that this experienced snooker player is not happy with is the money snooker players earn. In this sport, the earnings are not as substantial as in other sports such as golf.

O’Sullivan is evidently someone who follows golf outside of snooker and respects the sport. Although the arrival of LIV Golf has sparked strong reactions, O’Sullivan believes that LIV Golf is a fantastic product that has allowed individuals to earn huge sums of money.

He hopes that in the future, things will change for snooker as well, with the expectancy of something similar to LIV Golf emerging in this sport. O’Sullivan is hopeful for earning significant money and anticipates a big change.

“I would love to see a LIV-style breakaway, gosh! I wouldn’t mind getting a phone call saying ‘here, do you want 600 million to play for three years?’ I’d love that phone call, wouldn’t you?”- Ronnie O’Sullivan said, as quoted by Golf Monthly!

Players who have decided to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf are feeling the consequences of their actions. LIV Golf does not provide world ranking points, and it is questionable whether they will ever be awarded ranking points by the OWGR. This is one of the reasons why some still have no intention of leaving the PGA Tour despite the huge money from LIV Golf.

O’Sullivan is not considering the consequences of leaving the World Snooker Tour in case a new tour emerges. His intention now is to focus on his game and continue to achieve success just as he has done throughout his career.

“I don’t know. I don’t get involved in it. Each to their own. Everyone’s got to do what they’ve got to do. I try not to get involved in it.”-
O’Sullivan said.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has often emphasized how much he loves and respects popular athletes around the world. In his address from a few years ago, he also mentioned Tiger Woods, an icon of golf. His statement regarding Phil Taylor is also interesting, as he believes Taylor could break records in various sports.

“Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Tyson Fury..there are some phenomenal sports people out there.
I’ve got to say, Phil Taylor would be right up there. I know some people don’t classify it is an athletic sport, but if Phil Taylor played golf, he’d have been chasing Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors by now.”- he said.

Ronnie O’Sullivan on Tiger Woods

Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan commented two years ago on Tiger Woods’ performance at the Masters when the brilliant golfer made a comeback despite predictions that it wouldn’t happen. The snooker legend was aware of how a car accident could have an impact on Woods. Nevertheless, he was impressed by Woods’ qualities, believing that Tiger is a man for great things. Ronnie then confirmed that Tiger should be focused on other things such as recovery rather than winning tournaments as was the case in Woods’ career.

“Destiny has probably taken that out of his own hands, but I think he has probably had time to reflect and sit back and go: ‘Do you know what? I don’t actually have to win tournaments’. Put on that red shirt, get my golf club out and stand on that first tee likes he’s got a 10-inch, you know what, while the others have a two-inch, you know what.”- he said in 2022.

O’Sullivan believes that Woods is a player who instills fear in all golfers. Ronnie thinks that despite everything, Tiger’s presence at tournaments affects other golfers, causing them to humble themselves and become different. O’Sullivan believes that individuals, when Woods is not there, sometimes think they are someone important, until they see Woods again.

He stressed that Woods is the kind of player who can instill fear in golfers in that way.

Two years after the statement by the Snooker legend, Woods’ recovery is still not complete. What has changed is that LIV Golf has come onto the big stage, intending to attract many players to the PGA Tour, and we have yet to see what the future of golf holds.

We will see if O’Sullivan’s wishes come true and if a Tour will emerge in the future that can attract the best players. That would be a great opportunity for Ronnie and other snooker players to earn huge money, but the question is how fans of this sport would react.
