There is one UDFA linebacker who may have a shot at making the 53.

The 2024 NFL Draft has come and gone. The Dallas Cowboys, and 31 other teams, will now turn their attention to upgrading their roster in any way possible before training camp comes around. The Cowboys started this process by signing 12 undrafted free agents to contracts this past weekend. One position group Dallas doubled up at was the linebacker spot.

After everything the Cowboys went through at the position last season, it makes sense they are looking to add as many capable bodies to their group this year. One of the UDFA linebackers signed was South Dakota’s, Brock Mogensen.

Despite coming from an FCS school, Mogensen has some very intriguing traits and posted some impressive production during his final two collegiate seasons. The linebacker totaled 186 tackles during those two years and was named a first-team All-American by four publications in his senior season. Mogensen has ideal linebacker size at 6’2, 235 lbs and has a knack for always being around the football.

It’s clear the young linebacker has some upside and has the potential to make an impact as a Cowboy. So much so that in an article by Bleacher Report, Mogensen was named as Dallas’ UDFA most likely to make the 53-man roster.

Here’s what they had to say about the South Dakota product.

A first-team FCS All-American and the Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Year, Brock Mogensen has a shot to stick with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys have annually attempted to add production at linebacker since losing Sean Lee years ago. Mogensen’s physicality and instincts at the second level could allow him to evolve into a core special teamer at minimum.

Dallas is still attempting to figure out what it has in 2022 fifth-round pick Damone Clark and 2023 third-round pick DeMarvion Overshown, the latter of whom did not play last season. Mogensen is the type of downhill defender who could open eyes quickly.

If there’s one position group on Dallas’ roster that an UDFA has a real chance to make the 53 it’s linebacker. Brock Mogensen just might have a real shot at being a Cowboy when they take the field for the first time in the regular season this September.
