The Ladies European Tour continues its global journey, shifting from Australia to South Africa for the Joburg Ladies Open, scheduled from April 18th to 21st. Organized in collaboration with the Sunshine Ladies Tour, the tournament takes place at the Modderfontein Golf Club in Johannesburg, where Virginia Elena Carta will represent Italy as the sole participant.

The defending champion is English golfer Lily May Humphreys, a 22-year-old from Chelsford in her fourth season on the circuit. However, Humphreys faces a tough challenge to retain her title, having struggled with form, evident from four missed cuts in six individual events so far in 2024. Among the formidable contenders are the South African players, led by Lee-Anne Pace, boasting eleven LET victories, one on the LPGA Tour, and twelve on the home circuit. Other notable South African contenders include Nicole Garcia, Stacy Lee Bregman, and Casandra Alexander.
The field of 120 competitors features numerous challengers vying for the title, including Shannon Tan from Singapore, ranked fourth in the money list and a winner at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, English golfer Alice Hewson (ranked 9th), and Belgian Manon De Roey (ranked 10th).
Also in contention are Japanese player Ayako Uehara, Indian golfer Diksha Dagar, Spanish golfer Ana Pelaez Trivino, German golfer Laura Fuenfstueck, Finnish player Sanna Nuutinen, Swiss golfers Elena Moosmann and Chiara Tamburlini, English golfers Gabriella Cowley and Liz Young, and Norwegian golfer Madelene Stavnar.
Virginia Elena Carta enters her sixth individual event of the season, with mixed results in her previous outings. After missing the cut in her debut, Carta has consistently made the cut and is coming off an impressive eleventh-place finish at the Australian Women’s Classic, despite adverse weather conditions leading to a single-round event that saw three co-winners: Nicole Broch Estrup from Denmark, Pei-Ying Tsai from Taiwan, and Jess Whitting from Australia. The total prize purse amounts to €300,000, with the winner set to claim €45,000. As the Joburg Ladies Open unfolds, anticipation mounts for an exhilarating display of skill and competition on the greens of Johannesburg.
