It is a 54-hole tournament that will take place over three days, from Friday, February 2 to Sunday, the 4th of the same month. The highlight is the significant investment in the golf circuit, which will distribute a total of 20 million dollars in prizes. Of this sum, four million will go to the individual winner and five million will be distributed among the best teams.

This season marks the second full edition of the so-called LIV Golf League. The event takes place at one of the emblematic courses of the PGA Tour, the Camaleón Golf Course of Mayakoba in Mexico, for the celebration of the LIV Golf Mayakoba. This is the first of the fourteen tournaments that make up the Arab League calendar in 2024, and without a doubt, the big attraction is the current world number three, Jon Rahm.

The tournament will consist, as usual in the previous season, of two modalities: individual and teams, made up of four players. In total, there will be 13 teams with their respective captains and two players who will compete individually. These changes have occurred in 2024 as a result of Jon Rahm joining the circuit.

Jon Rahm, during his college years at Arizona State University, achieved notable success in golf. He has won 11 tournaments on the college circuit, ranking second only to Phil Mickelson, who has achieved 16 such titles. In 2015, as an amateur, he participated in the Phoenix Open, where he surprised everyone by obtaining an excellent fifth place.

On April 1 of that year, Jon Rahm became number one in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, holding this position for 25 weeks. Subsequently, he reached the top position again and held it for another 35 weeks. This guaranteed him qualification for important tournaments such as the U.S. Open and the following year’s Open Championship. In the first of these two tournaments, he placed twenty-third, demonstrating his talent.

Subsequently, he decided to turn professional, thus losing the right to participate in the Open Championship as an amateur. The Quicken Loans National was his first professional tournament, and he took a remarkable third place. Meanwhile, at the Canadian Open, he finished second. These performances earned him a PGA Tour card in 2017.

His first professional victory came in the Farmers Insurance Open, thanks to an eagle on the final hole. This success opened the doors for him to participate in the most prestigious tournaments in the world. Jon Rahm continued to perform well, finishing third at the Mexico Championship and reaching the final at the Dell Technologies Match Play.

Subsequently, he captured the Irish Open title and the final tournament of the European Tour season, the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai. These prestigious victories earned him the rookie of the year award.

In 2018, Jon Rahm started the year with a second place finish at the Tournament of Champions, but then earned a win at the CareerBuilder Challenge, which moved him to second place in the world rankings. He continued to achieve success, winning the Spanish Open and being part of the winning European team at the 2018 Ryder Cup.

In 2019, he won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and placed third at the U.S. Open. He then successfully defended his titles at the Irish Open and Spanish Open. He closed the season with a victory at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, taking the Race to Dubai title and being named European Tour Golfer of the Year.
