Jon Rahm: “LIV? We all know where we are”

on

Jon Rahm is always very helpful with the press.

But, in this troubled period for world professional golf, the Spanish champion seems engaged in diplomatic work to help try to find a solution to the conflict.

During the press conference in Hawaii, where the Sentry Tournament of Champions kicks off today, Rahm shared some thoughts on the current situation with reporters.

First argument the LIV Golf.

Jon Rahm, statements

“We all know where we are”

“I believe that there will be other players who will choose to move to LIV”

“But I think many of us understand what direction the PGA Tour has taken”

“They have made the necessary changes to adapt to the new era, and I think it is better for everyone”

“We are all curious to see how things work out.”

At this point, the questions inevitably turned to the Masters Tournament.

“I think that at the Masters Champions Dinner there will be a bit of tension, compared to the previous ones. I keep thinking about it, because I’d like to be there and see how things are going. It is a pity that there is not a Champions Dinner for the U.S. Open as well”

“I don’t see any difference from last year’s Majors”

“If someone has a problem with LIV players, he has to handle it himself. I respect everyone’s choices, and those who were my friends still are.”

“I believe that most of the resentment, if any, could be created more by journalists than anything else. I don’t think there are that many problems between the players, at least in person.”

(Regarding the latter statement, I’m personally a bit skeptical.)

Finally, the Ryder Cup.

Rahm argues for a joint decision between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour regarding the participation of LIV players.

I remind you that, at present, Team USA has banned those who have joined the Saudi League, while as regards Team Europe, the decision is suspended pending the ruling of the Court regarding the appeal against the measures imposed by the Tour European, presented by three players.

“Someone will have to make some difficult decisions”

“I hope the PGA of America and the European Tour make a decision together”

“I think it wouldn’t be smart to have one team that admits LIV players and one that doesn’t”

“And if they decide not to admit them, it will be a great opportunity for many talented young players to shine and have a chance in Europe, right?”

“A younger US team took the field at the last Ryder Cup, and we saw what they achieved.”

Jon Rahm, a wise and balanced man.
