Jon Rahm, in California to return to number 1

on

Returning to number 1 in the world, winning three consecutive races on the PGA Tour and confirming himself as the most fit player of the moment. These are the objectives of Jon Rahm who, after having conquered The American Express, from 25 to 28 January will be the most awaited big of the Farmers Insurance Open, an event on the top American men’s circuit – scheduled in San Diego, California – which the Spanish he has already made his own in 2017 when he celebrated his first title on the PGA Tour. Now the Basque has reached nine victories (the same as Severiano Ballesteros, who however won five Majors while Rahm is stuck at one) and does not seem to have any intention of stop his run.

Jon Rahm, results

Four affirmations and two Top 10 in the last six races held between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. This is Rahm’s roadmap (third in the world ranking and first place in the FedEx Cup) who, in the first two races on the 2023 PGA Tour, he made full loot by imposing himself first in the Sentry Tournament of Champions and then at The American Express. Since 2017 (Dustin Johnson) a player has failed to win three consecutive races on the top American circuit (the absolute record belongs to Byron Nelson, with 11 gems in a row in 1945 while Tiger Woods in 2006-2007 stopped at seven) .

Ahh but not only. Because in California there will be nine of the best twenty in the world, including five in the Top 10. With the Spanish, among the most anticipated, are Xander Schauffele (sixth and runner up in this event in 2021), Will Zalatoris (seventh and second in the tournament in 2022), Collin Morikawa (eighth) and Justin Thomas (ninth). Waiting then for Tony Finau (twelfth, in this race he obtained four Top 10s in the years), Max Homa (sixteenth), Sungjae Im (nineteenth) and Hideky Matsuyama (twentieth). While the American Luke List will try to repeat the title celebrated last year.

The appointment in the first two rounds will take place on two different courses of the Torrey Pines Golf Course (the North and the South, with the latter being the only competition venue for the third and fourth rounds), where Rahm won the 2021 his first Major, the US Open.
