Jersey numbers for Miami’s rookie class

You can now get your No. 44 Chop Robinson jersey — or a No. 52 Patrick Paul!?

The Miami Dolphins announced jersey numbers for the seven-player 2024 NFL Draft class.

First-round draft pick Chop Robinson will wear No. 44 — the same number he wore at Penn. State. Long snapper Blake Ferguson wore it last year but is switching to his college No. 48 for the 2024 season. He’s also offered to help any fan hoping to swap out the old jersey for a new one by June 1.

Former University of Houston offensive tackle and second-round draft pick Patrick Paul is the fourth Dolphins player to wear No. 52 since 2019. Justin Houston wore it in last season’s wildcard game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Linebacker Raekwon McMillan sported the number in 2018-19 and team captain Elandon Roberts wore it in 2021-22.

Speedster Jaylen Wright will wear No. 25 after Xavien Howard spent eight seasons anchoring the secondary in it. Wright is the first offensive player to wear the number in franchise history — the previous 13 were all defensive backs.

Fifth-round selection Mo Kamara will chase opposing quarterbacks in No. 50, previously worn by edge rushers Olivier Vernon and Andre Branch. Both Calvin Munson and Chase Winovich played for the Dolphins wearing the number last season.

Malik Washington will be the fourth wide receiver in four seasons to wear No. 83 following Chase Claypool (2023), Freddie Swain (2022), and Kirk Merritt (2021). Miami’s wide receivers coach Wes Welker wore it while playing three seasons in South Florida (2004-06).

Patrick McMorris is taking No. 32, which safety Verone McKinley wore in each of the last two seasons. McMorris wore No. 9 in 2023 with the California Golden Bears, but incoming tight end Jonnu Smith selected it first after wearing 81 in each of his first seven professional seasons.

Tahj Washington will step in as No. 82, last worn by tight ends Tyler Kroft and Cethan Carter. Brian Hartline played 92 games wearing it with the Dolphins, catching 298 passes for 4,243 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In 2013, Hartline joined Mark Duper, Mark Clayton, Irving Fryar, and Brandon Marshall as the only receivers in franchise history with back-to-back seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. He earned 1,083 yards in 2012 and 1,016 yards in 2013 as quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s top target. That said, Jarvis Landry, Jaylen Waddle, and Tyreek Hill have passed that millstone since.

The Dolphins also announced numbers for the 2024 free agent class and some other changes including Skylar Thompson (back to No. 19), David Long Jr. (No. 11), and Ethan Bonner (No. 27).

Miami will wrap up rookie minicamp this weekend before turning its attention to organized team activities (OTA) on May 20-21, 23, 28-29, and 31. A mandatory minicamp is taking place June 4-6.
