“I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I tried to study my opponent, but playing against him is something completely different. I tried to understand what I could do from a tactical point of view to beat him. I started well with the break. Then he got the immediate counter break.

When I won the first set, I felt more free to hit the ball. I think that made the difference today. I came here knowing I had a new challenge, a new opportunity to make something good happen.”

Jannik Sinner qualified for the semi-finals of the Miami Open thanks to his success against Tomas Machac in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Florida.

The Italian reached the semi-finals at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami for the third time in his career and will try to do his utmost to reach the third final of his season, which has been amazing so far. Thanks to this victory, Sinner became the player with the most victories in the season, with 20 successes.

Jannik Sinner: “Let’s see what will happen in the next challenge”

The Italian probably played the best match of his tournament. Tournament that saw him experience various ups and downs but always find a way to bring home the result.

“Reaching the semi-finals is already a great result. I can’t wait to play the next match, because it will be really tough. Last year I lost in the semi-final in Indian Wells and reached the final in Miami.

Now I’m in the semi-finals again and I’m trying to improve as a player. This is the only thing that matters to me. I feel like I played better than in previous games, and that’s what I wanted. Let’s see what will happen in the next match,” said Sinner at the press conference.

When Sinner showed up in the press room, the meeting between Daniil Medvedev and Nicolas Jarry had not yet begun. On the potential challenge with the Russian he said: “It would be tough. He played the final at Indian Wells and is confident. Last year he won the tournament. It would be a very tactical match. I have to be ready in case he starts the match like in Australia. Physically I feel good.”

Medvedev then won his match and now awaits Sinner in the semi-final of the Miami Open.
