Jannik Sinner is ready to play the US Open 2023. His first match at the last Grand Slam of the year is just a few days away and the Italian tennis player arrives at this appointment among the favorites to win the title. There will be many pressures that will accompany Sinner, seeded number 6, on his way to the US Open, especially after winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Toronto.

Sinner will face Hanfmann in the first round, but the wait is all for the hypothetical quarter-final against Carlos Alcaraz. In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the 22-year-old Italian talked about his past and present and future expectations.

Jannik Sinner on teamwork: “It’s our strength”

On his current conditions, Sinner said he felt good and ready to play: “Now I’m in a very good physical condition, we work a lot until the weekend and then comes the most fun part, that is playing the tournament. We worked a lot on the serve , but we’re also changing two, three other little things. But the most important thing now is to work hard, in quality and quantity.

Then, of course, I’m number six in the world and it’s an excellent result. Simone Vagnozzi is very good in the tactical and technical part of the shots. Darren Cahill, who has had more experience, can speak very well before the big games, it makes you feel comfortable. But they both understand each other very well.”

The Italian then spoke of the importance of teamwork: “When you’re young you can’t understand it, no. Because you think totally of other things and listen. I was good at listening, I still do very well. I listen to technical advice and I try to make them right away.Maybe that led me to where I am now.

Of course, even in the other sense now things have changed a little bit. There is more confrontation, in the sense that when I don’t understand something, I have a say. There is a comparison to find a right solution.

Now we are all on the same line, that is, we are a team: the physio, the trainer, Darren and Simone. When there’s something to discuss, we all talk together, and put all things together: that’s our strength, the team’s secret.”
