2024 NFL Draft Player Profile: Byron Murphy, DT, Texas (Big Cat Country)
Byron Murphy II has all the tools necessary to succeed at the next level. His power, quickness, and tenacity when getting after the ball are things that should translate pretty seamlessly as he makes the transition to the pros, though it’s his versatility that really sets him apart from the rest of the defensive tackle prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Jaguars quotes of the week: ‘I definitely want to be around’ (Big Cat Country)
Arguably the biggest looming issue with Trev is his contract extension. Inevitably raised, Lawrence again was keen to focus on what he considered the priority, while acknowledging he would be happy when the issue was finally resolved.
Happy Friday, Big Cat Country! Let’s look at some of this week’s and last week’s Jacksonville Jaguars highlights, hype, and more from Twitter.
5 Takeaways from Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke’s pre-draft presser (Big Cat Country)
With Lawrence entering his fourth season, the team has until the May 2 deadline to decide whether to enforce his (and Travis Etienne’s) fifth-year option. While nothing particular sticks out in Baalke’s statement, the overall sentiment coming out of this presser was that Lawrence’s contract extension would likely be completed soon
2024 NFL Draft: Daniel Jeremiah Doesn’t Envision Jaguars Trading Up For Rome Odunze (Jaguar Report)
“I love Rome Odunze. I’ve said he’s my favorite player in the draft. I just think where Jacksonville is right now, I think it makes more sense for them to maybe stay where they are or a little baby move to go get a corner,” Jeremiah said.
It’s a head-scratching stretch of futility the Jags hope to end in 2024. General manager Trent Baalke and coach Doug Pederson are expected to take a shot at changing the franchise’s fortunes at the position during the NFL draft next weekend … Alabama’s Terrion Arnold or Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell would make the most sense with the 17th overall pick. But no one should be surprised if Jacksonville takes a receiver there, either.
NFL projection model: Ranking all 32 rosters ahead of the draft (The Athletic)
I don’t know what to make of this team. I think QB Trevor Lawrence is better than he’s shown, but things just haven’t gone right for him so far. Maybe it’s because the OL is bottom-10 in the league? I’m not sure. Outside of Lawrence’s high ceiling, the rest of the roster needs a lot of work, as they don’t have a single position group that ranks inside the top 10.
Adding ex-Bills receiver Davis does give the Jaguars some perimeter speed, but if they’re relying on him to fully replace Calvin Ridley then they’re going to have some trouble. The Jaguars need more speed and could find it on Day 1 or Day 2. It would behoove the franchise if their pick became a target mainstay at receiver for the remainder of Trevor Lawrence’s career.
Setting the bar: Jacksonville’s Delores Barr Weaver honored for civic voice, giving (Times-Union)
Weaver and husband Wayne Weaver were the first owners of the Jaguars NFL team … She in particular has blazed a philanthropic trail, so far giving about $209 million to about 300 organizations that include area hospitals, nonprofits and schools. Her largest gift was made in one fell swoop — $61 million to the foundation to be given to various nonprofits in 2023.

The Six Traps Every NFL GM Must Avoid (The Ringer)
We’ll get some great rookie performances in 2024. The problem is that it’s pretty much impossible to predict which prospects will deliver them. Teams shouldn’t let their judgment be clouded by the recent outlier performances.

Trevor Lawrence will be signing a contract that will be making him the highest paid QB in the league. Expect this to happen before the draft #DUUUVAL
