Jack Sock: I had a prolonged offseason to get my body right

Jack Sock revealed he decided to have a prolonged three-month offseason so he could “get his body right.”

Sock, 30, survived a Dallas thriller on Monday as he edged out Ilya Ivashka 7-6 (2) 4-6 6-4 in three hours and four minutes.

Sock, who kicked off his 2023 season at the Cleveland Challenger last week, is playing his second tournament of the year in Dallas. 

“That’s why I put in the work right there the past few months. For anybody that follows [me] obviously I didn’t go down to Australia, so I did about a three-month offseason to get my body right, get everything dialed in and give this sport another good run. I’ve had a tough couple years and it’s been fun grinding my way back. These matches are what makes it worth it to keep going and this one feels great. I’m excited to move on,” Sock said, per the ATP website. 

Sock outlasted Ivashka in his Dallas opener

Ivashka claimed the first break of the match in the fourth game but Sock managed to get the break back in the seventh game. 

After recovering from a break down, Sock saved a set point on his serve in the 12th game to send the opener into a tie-break.

Not realizing a set point was seemingly too much for Ivashka as Sock started the first-set tie-break with a 3-0 lead before realizing his first set point to win the opener.

After losing the first set, Ivashka broke Sock in the very first game of the second set. 

This time, Ivashka was able to hold on to his serve as the Belarusian sent the match into a third set.

After dropping the second set, Sock started the third set with an early 3-0 lead.

Down by a break, Ivashka refused to quit as he got the break back in the fifth game. 

In the 10th game – when Ivashka was serving to stay in the match – Sock broke the Belarusian to complete a three-set win.
