Jack Nicklaus does not believe Tiger Woods can break his Majors record

Jack Nicklaus does not believe that Tiger Woods has it in him to break his record tally of 18 Majors.

Woods has won 15 Majors and holds numerous records in the world of golf, but he looks likely to miss out on the grand daddy of them all.

The 48-year-old still thinks he can make a push for Major honours, but Nicklaus feels that he won’t pull him in and the record will stand for some time yet.

“If he remained healthy I think he would’ve gotten it, but he didn’t remain healthy,” Nicklaus said on the Golf Channel.

“We all have injuries, we all have different things in our life which change things and Tiger had his problems.

“I feel bad for him about it but it is what it is. He’s still a great influence on the game of golf.

“Tiger and I have always had a great relationship, even when he’s trying to break my records. I said to him ‘nobody wants their records to be broken, but I don’t want them not to be broken because you don’t have the ability to do so.’

“So I feel bad for him on that.”

Nicklaus believes that it is good for golf to have Tiger Woods back in whatever capacity he is able.

“My take on Tiger,” Nicklaus added. “He’ll probably play a few tournaments this year, he may be successful depending on how his body holds up, but I’m just delighted to see him have the ability to go play.”

Nickalus added that Woods will be a nightmare for everyone else on the senior tour when he decides to make the transition.

“I think Tiger will play the senior tour. He’d be able to get in a cart, and he’ll absolutely kill everybody,” Nicklaus added.

Nickalus voiced support for PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

He said: “I talked to Jay [Monahan] about three weeks ago. We were talking, and I said, ‘Jay, don’t tell me what you’re doing. I don’t want to know because Rich Lerner is going to ask me a question about it, and if I don’t know, then I don’t have to answer the question.’

“So, I don’t really know where they’re going. I hope that they get this thing together all in the best interest of the game of golf. The LIV thing has been a powerful addition to the game, probably impacted a lot more than we thought it was going to, but it has, and it probably will continue to do so.”
