Is Gray Zone Warfare Worth Buying?

on

If you’re in the market for a new shooter, you may have seen a little chatter about Gray Zone Warfare. This all-new tactical FPS comes from MADFINGER Games, and it’s a deeply realistic, borderline milsim game with plenty worth talking about. It has been available as an early-access game since April 30, and it turned the extraction shooter community into a feral audience, with hundreds of thousands of people wanting to know as much as possible about the game.

However, like any new game, there’s a portion of the global gaming community that might have trouble deciding if they want to buy Gray Zone Warfare. It’s from a developer you might not have ever heard of, it’s only available on PC, and it boasts a more challenging gameplay loop that can put some players off.

So, is Gray Zone Warfare worth buying? Let’s find out.

Should You Buy Gray Zone Warfare?

Gray Zone Warfare has a lot to offer for an early-access game. There are plenty of quests to busy yourself with, and the vast open world makes for a fantastic environment to explore endlessly. It’s an extraction shooter at heart, but Gray Zone Warfare isn’t time-bound, which means you’re free to come and go as you please. It might have some intense mechanics when it comes to combat, inventory management, and healing, but that’s just where the milsim aspects start creeping into the game.

At the very foundation of the game, you’ve got a solid shooter. It’s a PvEvP game, which means you’re more likely to fight AI-driven enemies than you are real people. There’s always a battle raging somewhere to take part in, too.

On the surface, GZW shines. It looks beautiful at first blush, and despite some teething issues with the game’s frame rate, Gray Zone runs well on a high-end PC. What’s more important to stress is that because this is an early-access game, it’s only going to get better with time. That means that MADFINGER will introduce more quests, points of interest, weapons, mechanics, and more over time.

There’s even mention of a console release coming in the future.

For a minimum price of $34.99, Gray Zone Warfare offers an abundance of entertaining opportunities. It’s quite tough, but that’s the nature of the game, and once you’ve got the hang of the mechanics, you’ll be flying around the map and taking on all comers. If you’re not a fan of early-access games, that’s fair enough, but know that GZW is phenomenally well-built for a game that’s still in an alpha state, and it’s only going to improve.

Is Gray Zone Warfare worth buying? Absolutely – there’s plenty to sink your teeth into, you can play it with friends, it features a massive open-world map, and combat feels deeply satisfying. There are plenty of changes that could be made to make it better, but guess what? They’re coming.

Check that you’ve got the right specifications to run Gray Zone Warfare before you invest.
