on

Playoffs qualification scenario of Lucknow Super Giants

In the 54th IPL 2024 encounter, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a notable victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), dominating by a margin of 98 runs. Sunil Narine and Harshit Rana stood out with outstanding contributions for KKR. This match carried significant weight for LSG’s hopes of making it to the playoffs, but their journey to qualification seems to be growing more arduous.

Playoff aspirations remain intact

LSG, a highly esteemed franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), currently finds themselves at the 4th position on the points table for the IPL 2024 season. Despite accumulating 12 points, their campaign is overshadowed by a disappointing Net Run Rate (NRR). LSG’s performance has been a mixed bag, securing victory in six out of their eleven matches so far.

Playoffs qualification scenarios for LSG

LSG’s hopes for the playoffs remain intact, buoyed by their current standing in the team rankings with 12 points. As per the history, teams typically need a minimum of 16 points to secure a playoff berth since the league expanded to 10 teams back in 2022. In order to cement their position, LSG must emerge victorious in at least two of their remaining three games.

LSG’s playoff expectations rely on their NRR

Several teams have the potential to attain 16 points, with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all set to register 8 wins each. Therefore, LSG’s NRR of -0.371 carries considerable weight.

Upcoming matches of LSG

After their defeat against KKR, LSG will now play their remaining matches away from home. Their journey kicks off on May 8th against SRH in Hyderabad, followed by a showdown with DC at Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 14th. The concluding league match of IPL 2024 for LSG will take place against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 17th at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
