IPL 2024: Playoffs scenario for Gujarat Titans after win against Chennai Super Kings

In the 59th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Gujarat Titans (GT) emerged victorious over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a margin of 35 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium. This pivotal triumph kept GT’s playoff aspirations alive.

Gujarat Titans climb to eighth spot

In a high-scoring match, the Titans were asked to bat first and amassed an imposing total of 231/3. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan, scoring 104 off 55 and 103 off 51, respectively, forged a spectacular partnership of 210 runs.

However, in response, CSK failed to chase down the target despite valiant efforts from Daryl Mitchell (63 off 34) and Moeen Ali (56 off 36). Consequently, GT rose from the bottom to the 8th position on the IPL 2024 points table, having accumulated 10 points with a net run rate (NRR) of (-1.063).

Playoffs scenario for GT

Despite facing a setback, the Titans persist with a slender mathematical chance of reaching the playoffs. To sustain their hopes, they must triumph in their remaining two matches and markedly enhance their NRR.

Yet, the fate of the Titans’ playoff dreams is not solely within their control. They depend heavily on the performances of other teams to clinch a top-four finish. The scenario grows more intricate as they require precise outcomes from forthcoming matches featuring other playoff contenders.

Crucial Net-Run Rate

If several teams finish with equal points, the Titans will need to count on their NRR to clinch a playoff spot. At present, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are also on ten points and could challenge the Titans’ playoff hopes with a better NRR.
